Sumac is a spice which is popular in Middle Eastern cooking. Some say it has a sharp, tart taste, likened to that of lemon juice, with a hint of sweetness and floral notes.


Sumac is often used as a garnish to brighten dishes and to add color to meat rubs and spice blends. Sumac can also be used as a condiment, in marinades, in salads and sprinkled over hummus and dips.
